Health Direct wins international Health On the Net (HON) accreditation

Health Direct has been accredited by the international Health On the Net (HON) Foundation. The HON Foundation is a Non-Governmental Organization, internationally known for its pioneering work in the field of health information ethics, notably for the establishment of its code of ethical conduct, the HONcode.

We comply with the HONcode standard for trustworthy health

Quality & Trustworthiness of the Medical & Health Web

HON has been created for improving the quality of information intended to both patients and medical professionals for facilitating quick access to the most relevant and up-to-date medical discoveries.

HONcode is the oldest and the most used ethical and trustworthy code for medical and health related information available on Internet. The HONcode is designed for two target audiences: the general public and the web publisher, actively involving the site owner in the process of accreditation.

Simon Dye the Health Direct blogger says "Health Direct's accreditation is another sign that we are at the forefront of delivering NHS news, advice and information to patients, voters and taxpayers which they can trust."

"Indeed some of labour's expensive supposed flagship websites such as NHS Choices and the controversial Dr Foster Intelligence each costing UK tax payers £14,000,000 are not accredited."

The Health Direct website was set up and launched in the summer of 2004. The Health Direct blog chronicles the sad decline of the National Health Service.

What started off as an ad hoc blog to record the increasing amounts of political incompetence and interference in the NHS has mushroomed into many thousands of daily readers- including the Department of Health, and generates over three quarters of a million hits every month.
